Dindo Angeles' "Sinta" and Elwood Perez' "Summer Love" to be Screened in the "Overlooked Films, Underrated Directors Series" at CCP on June 11, 2011

Dindo Angeles' Sinta will be shown on June 11, 2011 at the CCP Tanghalang Manuel Conde. The screening is part of the new season of "Overlooked Films, Underrated Directors Series" presented by the CCP in cooperation with the Society of Filipino Archivists for Film (SOFIA). The series represents SOFIA's effort to assess certain films and filmmakers by taking a second look at their unjustly neglected bodies of work.

In addition to Sinta, a special screening of Elwood Perez' Summer Love will be held at 6PM at the Dream Theater. Produced by Regal Films in 1981, the film jumpstarted the teen flick trend and starred the hottest love teams of the era: Maricel Soriano and William Martinez, Gabby Concepcion and Snooky Serna. Summer Love was among the missing films in the Regal Films library, lost to a fire. SOFIA was able to unearth a copy in U-matic format, and thus audiences today will have a chance to once again see the film. Mother Lily Monteverde of Regal Films is expected to grace the event and publicly endorse SOFIA's archiving efforts.

The "Overlooked Films, Underrated Directors Series," which will be held every second Saturday of the month, unless otherwise indicated, began on April with a Tribute to Hammy Sotto, SOFIA’s founding president, April is Sotto’s birth and death anniversary month. The tribute featured Sotto’s Documentary on Philippine Cinema.

Screened in May was Joey Gosiengfiao's Babae Ngayon at Kailanman. Screening schedule: July 15-24 - Tribute to Ronwaldo Reyes (Retrospective Section of Cinemalaya 2011); and August 13- Pusaka Pontiana by Ramon Estella. The film showings are at 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
